John M. C. Edens


The Eden name is shown as Eden in some Census and Edens in others. On his deeds his name is shown as John M. C. Edens, John M. Edens, John C. Edens. On his death certificate it is John M. C. Eden

In the 1860 Census, Collin Co. Weston PO, TX,  John Eden is shown as owning real estate valued at $1000 and real property valued at $2000. He was a farmer. He and his family moved to TX between 1857 and 1860, according to the places of birth shown for his children in the Census.

In the 1870 Census, Collin Co. Weston PO, TX,  John Eden is shown as owning real estate valued at $2500 and real property valued at $850.

In the 1880 Census, Collin Co, TX , John Eden is shown as living with his daughter Josephine and her husband James French as a widowed or divorced person.  John's wife Sarah was not mentioned.

In the 1900 Census, Collin Co. TX, John C. Eden is shown with George W. Hendricks, wife Missouri, Son-Elmer J.  John is shown as a widower.

Ruby Flesher wrote that John had his leg amputated.  He said he made it through the Civil War and walked all the way home without a wound but had to have his leg cut off.  Florence Hendrix said John had his leg amputated due to blood poisioning from a green briar scratch.  A story told: "Some time after he had his leg removed, he complained about worms crawling around his toes. They dug up the leg and found there were worms between his toes."

The first piece of ground found that John purchased in Texas was in the amount of $1200 situated in Collin County on the Waters of East Fork of Trinity River about twelve miles Northerly of McKinney line being all of a survey of one hundred and fifty four acres of land...except 17 acres deeded to someone else.

John bought and sold land.  He is shown as purchasing land from Ward Electra, John Lawrence, and Sarah (believed to be his grandchildren).
