Irvin Augustus Whitemire


1929:  "The Pickens Sentinel", Pickens, SC, issue of 7 Nov 1929: "Newsy Letter From Oolenoy Section - .........I. A. Whitmire, a susstantial and highly respected citizen of this section, passed away at his home on Sunday morning at 6 o'clock.  While Mr. Whitmire had been in declining health for several months his death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.  He was a member of the Peter's Creek Baptist Church.  MR. Whitmire was one of the most successful men, financially, in the upper section of the county.  For a number of years he did a considerable busienss as a merchant.  He was a successful farmer and had engaged considerably in the fruit business.  Mr. Whitmire was never married.  He is survived by the following relatives:  Sisters, Mrs. Lucy White, Mrs. Laura A. Clark of this community, Mrs. Mattie Whitmire of Michigan and a brother, Bub (s/b Bud) Whitmire of Texas.  Pending the arrival of relatives, a nephew, Eugene White of Kansas City, Mo., and a niece, Mrs. Ofra Elrod of Washington, D. C., funeral services will be held at the Oolenoy church and interment will be made in the family plot there.  The service will be in charge of Rev. J. E. Foster, a life long friends of the family."
